Pellet Magic – Giant Sturgeon Instead of Carp

We brought along only the most reliable tackle:

– Marshall Valiant carp rod
– Marshall HQ Carp reel
– Pitbull mainline

The first two hardly need any introduction, as they are well-known favorites among carp anglers. The quality and performance these tools deliver are exceptional—without exaggeration, competing brands often cost 50–150% more for a similar level.

The new Carp Zoom Pitbull line for 2025 retains all the advantages of its predecessor, the market-leading Bulldog, while adding outstanding UV resistance and increased durability against varying water chemistry.

Terminal tackle:

– Carp Zoom in-line spiked lead – non-toxic
– Pre-tied Carp Zoom Classic boilie rigs with premium-quality hooks

We heard about a nearby lake with a strong fish stock, so we decided to give it a try.

At this picturesque venue, I opted for baits that are essentially fish feed pellets. Carp Zoom distributes products from Alltech Coppens, Europe’s largest pellet manufacturer. After years of testing, this is the only pellet I’ve found that offers guaranteed nutritional content—and its effectiveness is unquestionable.

Armed with these pellets for both feeding and hookbait, we kicked off the session.

Their versatility is outstanding—the range covers every angling method, you just need to choose wisely.

For feeding, I used soaked Carp Zoom boxed pellet mixes, re-casting regularly every 15–20 minutes. As hookbait, I went with a proven choice: a slow-dissolving, black, pre-drilled 20 mm pellet.

After a series of bites, the first carp started to arrive. They weren’t quite the size I was hoping for, but that’s fishing—many anglers would be more than happy with these fish.

The action came in waves—periods of steady bites followed by quieter spells—but something still felt missing.

That’s when I decided to switch things up and try one of Carp Zoom’s 2025 innovations: a pre-drilled red strawberry halibut pellet. I chose the mid-sized 15 mm version, intentionally going smaller than the black one.

As my patience was starting to wear thin and I was considering recasting, I noticed a few tentative drop-back bites. I held my nerve, waiting for a proper run—and it came.

After striking, we battled the fish carefully for 15–20 minutes before finally landing a 120 cm sturgeon—much to the excitement of my enthusiastic grandkids!

Don’t hesitate to use pellets on any water and with any method—the results speak for themselves.
