Comfort and Practicality While Feeder Fishing

I think we can all agree that true relaxation by the water only comes when we’re comfortable and equipped with practical gear—tools that not only make fishing easier, but also allow us to spend more time unwinding beyond the actual act of catching fish.

As a competition angler, I don’t usually spend the seconds saved on convenience resting—I use them to catch more fish. Still, when it comes to choosing equipment, comfort and practicality are just as essential for me. If you take a closer look at a competition setup, you’ll notice that everything revolves around efficiency and ease of use. Of course, sitting on a seatbox for hours might not sound comfortable at first—but the quality of the seat and proper adjustment can make a huge difference. With the right setup, even after five hours, your back won’t be aching.

Beyond that, a well-positioned side tray under shade, a properly adjusted rod rest, and spare rods and landing net within arm’s reach all serve one purpose: to ensure that everything—from groundbait and hookbaits to essential tools—is accessible with a single movement. This saves valuable time and ultimately results in more fish landed.

The same principles apply to recreational angling as well, even if the end goal is slightly different. A comfortable chair, a practical side tray with bait tubs, a well-adjusted rod rest, and proper protection from the elements all contribute to a more enjoyable experience.

Just imagine: you’re sitting by the water in the summer heat—or even in pouring rain. Beneath you is a soft, armrest-equipped fishing chair. Next to you, your baits and groundbait rest neatly on a tray, protected by a side cover. Above you, an umbrella shields you from the harsh sun or heavy rain—and you can still cast comfortably from underneath it. And if your bag is also within easy reach, then only necessity—or the strike of a powerful fish—will pull you out of that comfort. And let’s be honest, in both cases, you’ll gladly give in.

I may not be far off in saying that, on the market for fishing chairs, the seating range of Carp Zoom is among the most extensive. You can find options for everyone—from smaller anglers to larger builds, and everything in between.

Armrest models probably offer the highest level of comfort, whether you’re heading out for a quick day session or a multi-day carp trip. One thing all chairs have in common is a stable frame and adjustable legs designed to handle uneven terrain. This is especially important—if your seat isn’t level, it can become uncomfortable in as little as half an hour. That’s why it’s essential to properly adjust your chair every time, adapting it to the swim conditions.

Another practical feature is the adjustable backrest, which can be fine-tuned to suit individual preferences—much like a car seat—since comfortable posture varies from angler to angler.

In addition, these chairs can be set up in seconds and folded down just as quickly. Despite their size when in use, they collapse into a surprisingly compact form, making transport and packing much easier.

Whether you choose a thickly padded version or one with a soft, waterproof cover ultimately comes down to personal preference.

My personal favorite, which I’ve been using for years with complete satisfaction, is the Carp Zoom Full Comfort carp armchair. Its wide seat and high backrest provide excellent support—even for larger anglers—while ensuring long-lasting comfort, making it ideal for extended carp sessions. I even find myself setting it up in the garden after mowing the lawn, just to relax for a while.

More recently, the FC Feeder Chair, specifically designed for feeder fishing, has also become available. Its wide-spread legs allow for easy attachment of various accessories and adapters. This model comes without armrests, making it an excellent choice even for competitive method feeder fishing, as it allows unrestricted rod handling while seated.
