Golden-Hued Common Carp

I didn’t want to overcomplicate the setup, so I stuck with my trusted Marshall carp gear.

For the rig, I went with a fully simplified, traditional setup, presenting a proven Carp Zoom Act-X hookbait boilie. Out of the many tempting flavours, mango was the clear choice for the day.

Since I was using a classic open-end method feeder, I prepared a custom groundbait mix consisting of:

– Carp pellets (6 mm)
– Carp Fiesta mix (3 kg)
– Sweet Corn – super sweet canned corn

Luckily, I had some expert help with preparing the mix—the kids proudly rolled the tastiest little balls for the fish, adding even more fun to the session.

From this generous amount of feed, plenty of smaller and mid-sized fish had their fill!

On the second rod, I experimented with smaller hookbaits, using Carp Zoom wafters to balance the presentation.

Throughout the session, I kept rotating baits based on instinct, constantly fine-tuning the approach.

As the heavy feeding started to take effect, the first signs were subtle—small, tentative bites.

Then, after those delicate taps, came a proper, aggressive take—the reel started screaming, signaling that the fish I’d been waiting for had finally arrived!

For the kids, there’s nothing more exciting than seeing the rod bend—and they eagerly tried to help during the fight as well. They watched the water with anticipation, waiting for that first glimpse of the fish beneath the surface.

After a careful 10-minute fight, I finally slipped the net under a truly beautiful, golden-scaled carp.

My little helpers quickly treated the fish with Carp Zoom antiseptic, and after a quick photo, it was safely returned to its natural environment.

During the rest of the session, we managed to land another 2–3 smaller carp. By early afternoon, we were already heading back—after all, we couldn’t miss the promised ice cream!
